Last week in Vietnam, the Renewables Academy AG (RENAC) ran the seminar “Bankability of Renewable Energy Projects”. This was the last in a successful series of face-to-face seminars which were held as part of the capacity building programme CapREG - Capacity Development on Renewable Energy and Grid Integration. RENAC is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) within the framework of the German International Climate Initiative (IKI) to implement this three-year scholarship programme in the partner countries Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Mexico, Peru and Ecuador.

Since the beginning of CapREG in 2014, RENAC has awarded more than 1,200 scholarships to professionals from the public and private energy sectors in the seven partner countries to be trained on relevant topics related to renewable energy and grid integration. The aim of CapREG is to support the creation of suitable framework conditions for the deployment of renewable energy and thus to assist in increasing their use. “CapREG has been an outstanding opportunity to learn specifications of renewable energy and grid integration not only within Germany but in a broad range of countries through the diversity of its participants”, said Mr. René Narváez, Director of Clean Energy Regulation at the Energy Regulatory Commission from Mexico. “RENAC has put together a very comprehensive seminar with state-of-the-art knowledge.”

CapREG has provided scholarships for professionals to attend face-to-face seminars in the partner countries and at RENAC’s headquarters in Berlin (Germany), as well as to participate in online trainings. Training topics were identified during an extensive Capacity Needs Assessment conducted by RENAC at the beginning of CapREG. They included general concepts of renewable energy technologies, grid integration of large amounts of renewable energy, financing and project development. The high interest in these topics was confirmed through the very large number of applications received – more than 1,000 applications for the 28 face-to-face seminars alone.

RENAC, based in Berlin, is a leading international provider of training and capacity building in renewable energy and energy efficiency. Since 2008 RENAC has worked with more than 6,800 participants from 145 countries worldwide.
