NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Sep 22, 2016)

The Global Cyber Alliance (www.globalcyberalliance.org), an international non-profit organization focused on addressing systemic cyber risks, celebrates its first anniversary. Established by the New York County District Attorney, the Center for Internet Security, and City of London Police in September of 2015, the organization has grown considerably and built a capability to address systemic cyber risks.

The professional staff has grown to 16, including a number of highly regarded industry leaders, a talented technical team focused on innovative solutions, and dedicated support staff. GCA has also established significant partnerships with other organizations -- businesses, government, and non-profits -- around the world that will help it achieve their joint mission: Do Something. Measure It.

Focused on implementation of solutions to systemic risks and measuring the results, the Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) brings a unique perspective and approach to addressing cybersecurity. "We define systemic cyber risk as that which affects more than one organization, is above the enterprise level and is material across an entire nation or sector," said Philip Reitinger, GCA President and CEO. "We have two projects currently underway for which we expect to release early results in the coming months. We will also move forward on measuring systemic cyber risk to better enable industry, governments, and NGOs to prioritize actions and measure effect." Reitinger, a longtime industry and government executive, joined GCA in January of this year.

Earlier this year, the Global Cyber Alliance Strategic Advisory Committee met and made recommendations about the specific risks the organization should address. Out of that meeting GCA's first projects were identified: addressing the risk of phishing through DMARC implementation, and minimizing the risk of phishing and other attacks through building a DNS infrastructure that would block many cyberattacks.

"One year ago, together with the City of London Police and the Center for Internet Security, my Office launched the Global Cyber Alliance and pledged seed capital of up to $25 million in criminal forfeiture proceeds over five years to make this groundbreaking new organization a reality," said District Attorney Vance. "GCA's impressive and growing list of partners includes internationally recognized leaders in diverse areas of industry and practice, all of whom are dedicated to developing the best technological solutions to counter cyber threats and share intelligence across sectors so that attacks can be prevented prospectively and on a global scale. I look forward to seeing GCA and its partners work collaboratively to create a safer cyber environment for individuals and organizations throughout the world."

"The GCA is off to a great start and is developing solutions to the biggest cyber threat of phishing. I remain convinced that the alliance will permit us to start reducing the impact of the growing global cyber threats," said John Gilligan, Chairman, Center for Internet Security (CIS).

"The Global Cyber Alliance is unique in not being tied to any single nation allowing it to look at the systematic cyber vulnerabilities that target us all," said Ian Dyson QPM, Commissioner of the City of London Police. "In its first year the GCA has identified the biggest cyber risks facing the world as well as build many of the partnerships that will enable it to tackle those threats in the coming years. I would encourage organisations across the world to not only recognise the importance of the work of the GCA but also join up so that together we can make the cyber world a safer place for all."

"The collaboration of governments and companies around the globe is an increasingly critical business, economic, and social imperative and I'm very happy with the accomplishments of GCA in this matter," said Troels Oerting, Group Chief Security Officer & Group Chief Information Security Officer for Barclays PLC. "In this past year, through collaboration and sharing of intelligence, the GCA has become a highly valuable resource in the fight against cybercrime by providing tools and solutions to build cyber resilience assurance to support the digital environments. I'm looking forward to seeing how GCA will continue to grow and mature in the future years." Oerting is the former chief of Europol EC3 and in addition to his role at Barclays also serves on the GCA board of directors.

"I am very pleased with the progress of GCA as we reach our one-year anniversary. Over the past year, GCA has been a needed catalyst to bring together global leaders, subject matter experts, geographically diverse governments, and international companies to collectively and cooperatively drive implementation of cyber solutions. We are thrilled to be able to offer tools and solutions to organizations, industry and governments that need more help in building their cyber defenses," said William Pelgrin, GCA Chairman. "What began as a conversation between the New York County District Attorney Cyrus Vance and a few others, about the need for a community approach based on getting things done, has grown tremendously over the last year. We are building and promoting real solutions that can have a positive impact in confronting cyber risks."

The Global Cyber Alliance (GCA) is an international, cross-sector effort dedicated to confronting cyber risk and improving our connected world. It is a catalyst to bring communities of interest and affiliations together in an environment that sparks innovation with concrete, measureable achievements. While most efforts at addressing cyber risk have been industry, sector, or geographically specific, GCA partners across borders and sectors. GCA's mantra "Do Something. Measure It." is a direct reflection of its mission to eradicate systemic cyber risks.

GCA, a 501(c)3, was founded in September 2015 by the New York County District Attorney's Office, the City of London Police and the Center for Internet Security. Learn more at www.globalcyberalliance.org.
